While SQLite is still the most used mobile database, choosing a persistence solution is not a straight forward anymore. Today, various NoSQL solutions challenge SQLite and promise better performance and features like real time synchronization. Products like Google Firebase raise the question if it is still worth developing handmade custom solutions around REST and JSON. We will give an overview of the data landscape and discuss the pros and cons of available products.
